Eligibility

Yes, unless you trained and qualified entirely in English in a country NMBI accepts. Most candidates sit IELTS Academic and need 7.0 overall with no band below 7.0, except writing which can be 6.5. OET grade B is accepted and many nurses find it easier, because the reading and listening material is clinical rather than academic.

Ireland and Germany will consider you at one year post-registration. Australia and Canada realistically want two. The UAE requires two years by regulation and no employer can waive it. Care roles start at one year.

It is a recency-of-practice problem and it is fixable. Every regulator wants a period of practice in the last five years, usually between 450 and 1,000 hours. If you are short we will tell you exactly how many hours you need, and we will not put you forward until you have them.

No. We are a signatory of the WHO Global Code of Practice and we run no active campaigns in the countries on the WHO health workforce support and safeguards list. If you are from one of those countries and you approach us directly we will still help you, and we will tell you honestly which employers can lawfully hire you.

Yes, and it usually helps: a second registration and a reference written in English both strengthen the application. You will need police clearance from your current country as well as your home one.

Costs

Nothing paid to Northline. Not a placement fee, not an administration fee, not a documentation fee, not now and not from your first payslip. We are paid by the employer, once, on your start date.

Your English or German test, your police clearances, and your passport if it needs renewing. Between €300 and €600 depending on the country. Registration fees, visa fees and flights are paid by the employer on every role we advertise.

Some employers use them, most commonly in the UAE and in Irish private care. Where one exists we show you the exact wording before you interview and we will tell you if we think it is unreasonable. We have ended two client relationships over this.

One month of local living costs plus the deposit on a room. Ireland €1,800. Canada CAD 2,500. Germany €1,600. Australia AUD 2,800. The UAE usually nothing, because accommodation is in the package.

Documents

Your passport, your council registration certificate, your degree parchment and transcripts, and a letter from every employer confirming your dates, hours and role. That last one is the item people underestimate: old employers are slow, and you need one from each.

The regulator writes to the body that issued your qualification and asks it to confirm the document directly. It is slow because it depends entirely on that body answering. We start it on day one and chase weekly, and we send you the chase log rather than a summary.

Yes, and it is the single most common cause of a stalled application. Fix it before you apply: an affidavit of one and the same person, sworn locally, resolves it in most jurisdictions. We will send you the wording your regulator expects.

Between three and six months depending on the destination, and you need one from every country you have lived in for six months or more. Do not order it first. It is the last document you collect.

Family

On the Irish Critical Skills Employment Permit, yes, immediately, and your partner gets a Stamp 1G with full labour-market access. On the General Employment Permit you wait twelve months. Canada and Australia bring your family at the same time as you. Germany requires proof of income and adequate housing first. The UAE lets you sponsor family once your residence visa is issued and you earn above AED 4,000.

In Ireland, Canada, Australia and Germany state schooling is free and your children are entitled to it. In the UAE schooling is private and costs AED 25,000 to 60,000 a year per child, which is why we ask about family early: it changes which offers make sense.

We do it about twenty times a year. It takes longer, because two registration timelines rarely land together, and we will tell you which of you is likely to travel first rather than letting you discover it.

Every contract we place has a compassionate leave clause. We read it with you before you sign and we hold a copy, so you are not arguing about it from an airport at four in the morning.

Arriving

In employer-arranged accommodation on almost every role we advertise: usually a shared house or hospital housing for four to twelve weeks. It gives you time to find your own place with a local payslip in your hand, which is the only way anyone will rent to you.

A supervised period on the ward, typically six to twelve weeks, where a preceptor signs off your competencies. It is paid at your normal rate. Common in Ireland, occasional in Australia depending on the AHPRA outcome, rare in Canada, and built into the German recognition route.

Two to six weeks after you start, depending on the payroll cycle you land in. This is why we insist you arrive with a month of living costs, and why we say it out loud rather than letting you find out.

Call Ngozi. We have moved 41 people to a second employer since 2018 and we did not charge anyone for it. Leaving a country is a much bigger decision than leaving a job, and we would rather help you change the job.
