Six kinds of room, forty-two of them

Nothing is stacked. Every room is on the ground or has its own stair, and every one of them was set out on the field with a compass before it was drawn.

The Lava Suite at nine in the morning: a low white volume with a deep shaded opening, a basalt terrace, the sea beyond.

Cut into the flow at the sixty-metre contour, one room deep and turned four degrees off the coast so the trade wind passes the terrace instead of crossing it. A bed facing east, a bath behind a basalt screen, and a door you will leave open.
