We build slowly, in timber and stone, for people who notice the weather.

A long house on a birch slope above Sørfjorden. One roof, tilted toward the water, so the rain leaves the way it arrived.
A gable among birches, twenty minutes by ferry from Aker brygge. Painted pine, one chimney, no gutters.
A charred-timber bath on the rocks at Nordnes. Ten posts, one long bench, and the sea two steps down.
Forty-six square metres above the tree line, tarred black so the snow can find it.
Three gables on a backyard site in Grünerløkka. The windows start at 600 mm, which is where four-year-olds look.
Five brick bays beside the old reading room. The scaffold comes down in March 2026.
Halvorsen Atelier was founded in 2011 in a former paint works on Maridalsveien. Ingrid Halvorsen draws the buildings; Tomas Berge draws what happens inside them. We are twelve, including a model-maker who is also a joiner.
We visit every site in three seasons before we draw anything, we build mock-ups of anything we have not built before, and we do not take on more than four houses and one public building in a year. Our drawings are made to be built from.
